December 10, 2019 Heidi Parkes
My Quilts and how I got there
www.HeidiParkes.com
Heidi was born in Chicago and was welcomed with a collaborative family quilt that her grandmother organized.  She is a fiber artist, focused on quilts and mending.  Her art explores the concepts of place, relationships, and memory.  Some common themes in her art are those of mapping, memory, and color field work.  She pieces and quilts in an improvisational style.   She is a graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and taught high school art in Naperville for 9 years.  She now lives in Milwaukee.  When she is not lecturing and leading workshops across the country, she collaborates with her father to make her own furniture, is an enthusiastic fermenter, certified yoga therapist, and uses her own hand-thrown pottery daily.
