Lecture Description:  Pam will lecture on the history of story telling, raising social awareness, and protests in textiles and quilts.  Stories were quilted into bed coverings as early as the 1400s, and protest quilts go back to 1830!  Learn some little known facts and fascinating history of quilts with a message.

About Pamela: For Pam Weeks, quilts have been the focus for more than half her life, and she joyfully explores the many facets of this ancient and always exciting craft. Pam started making quilts as a result of the craft revival inspired by the Bicentennial in 1976, then began designing her own work and focused on art quilts based in tradition with an emphasis on non-traditional color. Several years later Pam took a class on reproducing the antique quilts she loved but couldn’t afford, and was hooked on quilt history. This led to research on “potholder” quilts, and the Civil War era. Her first book on Civil War soldiers’ quilts was published in 2013. Pam now offers a number of lectures on various aspects of quilting history.
As the curator of the New England Quilt Museum, Pam says she has job of her dreams, working with many different quilters, collectors, institutions, and co-conspirators to plan exhibits for the museum, and research quilts in the museum's collection. Pam is a regular contributor to AQS magazine.
