Lecture Description: When standing in front of original quilts, Barbara was always curious about how quilters transferred inspiration from their heads into finished quilts. Using slides, she will discuss her journey from idea to quilt, featuring four or five large quilts and a couple of small ones. She will describe the inspiration for each, how those inspirations developed through successive quilts, and her use of Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
About Barbara: Having suspected that she was born with a needle of one kind or another in her hand, Barbara has lived for needlework and fiber her whole life. She made all her own clothes from the age of ten, including her wedding gown, which she designed using newspaper as a pattern. She was taught by her mother who was fearless with fabric, and who converted her husband’s suits to outfits for herself—but she never made a quilt. When life put a temporary halt to Barbara’s handwork (needlepoint, embroidery, and knitting) in the late 90s, she returned to her sewing machine. That was when the quilt bug hit—hard! She relished setting a new challenge to solve and learn with each quilt she designed. She advises that quilting is for fun, so figure out what is fun and have a ball doing it! |
